            This canoe is so light that you can put it on your shoulder and skip down a wooded trail to that hidden lake or stream.  The Sassafras paddles with almost no effort.   The 26-pound Sassafras carries on the tradition of the original “trapper” or “pack” canoes, but with modern building methods.  The Sassafras 12 will hold a 250-pound load while she tracks well and turns easily.  It is stable enough for fishing and photography.

            The Sassafras 16 has slightly rounded (rockered) hull that offers more speed and responsiveness than many of the plastic or glass boats.  This canoe is symmetrical, bow to stern.  This design allows a solo paddler to sit facing “backwards” on the forward seat for better trim. The hull is formed with 6mm okoume with glass cloth on the bottom.  The bow and stern have watertight flotation compartments. These canoes feature ash-caned seats, sapele decks, mahogany outwales, and an ash thwart.
